Obituary for James R. (J.R) Matheis II

James R. (J.R.) Matheis II, age 46 of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Jasper, passed away on March 15, 2022 at home.

He was born on March 27, 1975 in Evansville, Indiana to James and Martha (Seng) Matheis. He married Dianne Dayton on December 31, 2008 in the Villages in Florida.

He was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, The Villages, Florida.

He was a graduate of Jasper High School and the University of Southern Indiana with a Marketing Degree. J.R. worked as a Finance Office Manager, Salesman and Real Estate Appraiser. He loved photography so he volunteered his talent at St. Joseph Church and TRI-CAP events. He could also be seen at sporting events taking pictures of the players and video footage for News Now DC. He also volunteered his time with the Red Cross helping the community in Jasper.

He was an avid skier and skiing instructor in his teens. He found joy in his love of animals by owning several throughout his life including Tasha, Tess, Stella and Buddy Ray.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Matheis of the Villages, Florida, one son, Trey Matheis (Aubrey) of Tell City, father, James Matheis of Jasper, stepsister, Rachel Allen (Chad) of Seattle, Washington, and special aunt, Suzy. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Patricia Dayton of the Villages Florida, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Matheis and stepmother, Karen (Kemp) Matheis, grandparents, Albert and Lorena Matheis, and Hilary and Mary Alice Seng.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James R. (J.R.) Matheis II will be held at 10am on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, IN, with burial to follow at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 4pm until 8pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9am until the 10am Mass time at Holy Family Church on Thursday.
